Kiley + Micah: Foggy Blue Ridge Mountain Elopement
Kiley + Micah contacted us a few months ago, asking for our help in planning and photographing their elopement. We decided on a location on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where they rented a cabin and eloped with just their closest friends and family. Here is a quick interview we did with them so that you can better understand their story:
How long have y'all been together?
We have been together a little less than 3 years, although it feels like forever!
Tell us about the proposal:
Micah proposed to me while we were in Niagara Falls. The night he was going to propose I caught the stomach virus at dinner before we went to the falls. He proposed the next night, and before bed, he starting puking! It was absolutely horrible, but hey, we made it! Lol
What made y'all decide to elope?
WE HATE WEDDINGS. They are absolutely too formal, and not to mention, STRESSFUL! We truly feel like people get so caught up in the details and they forget all about the true meaning of marriage and the person they are promising their souls to. Also, we couldn’t purchase decorations that compare to the mountains!?
What made you choose your elopement location?
North Carolina has always been near and dear to our hearts. The Egglestons actually picked out our location. AND THEY NAILED IT!
What was y'all's favorite part of your elopement day?
Our favorite part of the elopement has to be facing 30 degree weather with 45 MPH winds together. Marriage is all about facing storms together, and we started out with a bang haha! It was an exciting and invigorating experience.
Are you glad you decided to elope?
We are one hundred thousand percent thankful we took the elopement route! It was so unique and intimate. The Egglestons made the experience so unforgettable. I’ve had more than one person say to me that our pictures look like something from Twilight. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t change onc single part of that day. (Excuse me while I continue to daydream.)
What advice would you give a newly engaged couple?
Speaking from experience, I would say forget what everyone else thinks! Don’t be afraid of telling Aunt Betty that she isn’t invited to your wedding because you aren’t having one! Also, make every decision together and dare to be different! Don’t get caught up on the small stuff and DO NOT let someone else tell you how it’s supposed to be. This is your day and be sure to make the most of it.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Ruin the dress and the tux. Drag it through the mud, lay in the grass and run through a field. It makes for excellent pictures and you’ll be glad you did.
